Slot Machine positioning

Volumes have been written on this matter, and the debates and arguments about where the "hot" slot machines are positioned in the casino are still intense – more than 60 yrs after the slot machines were 1st placed in the casinos.

The classic rule is that the best slot games were located just inside the entry of the casino; so that everyone passing by would be able to see real jackpot winners and be titillated to come into the casino … play. Our interpretation is that this is no longer the case.

Just about all of the big name casinos these days are enormous complexes and it’s no longer possible to see inside from the sidewalk, so there’s no longer a reason to position the ‘loose’ slots in close proximity to any entrances.

Yet another classic rule is that loose slot machine games are positioned on the major aisles in the casinos, again so that more fun seekers could see winning jackpots and be energized to play. Importantly however, we find that this also is not a universal rule any more.

What casinos found over the years is that people walking down the busy aisles were frequently on the way to somewhere else. If they played slot games at all, they would simply put in their loose change because they happened to be walking by. Win or lose, they would very often not stop to keep playing. And the last thing a casino wants is for someone to win a jackpot by playing only a few coins and then not stay to put it all back in!

Today, casinos are constantly changing their philosophy about where to place the loose slot machines.

Volumes have been written on this matter, and the disquiet and ruckus about where the "hot" slot games are installed in a casino are still taking place – 60 years after slot games were first placed in gambling houses.

The quintessential rule is that the most favorable slot machines were placed just inside the main doorway of the casino; so that fun seekers going by would be able to see actual jackpot winners … be challenged to come unto the gaming floor … play. Our sentiment is that this is definitely no longer true.

Almost all of the large casinos today are colossal complexes and now you can’t see inside from the sidewalk, so there’s no longer a reason to put the ‘loose’ slot games close to any entrances or exits.

Yet another standard rule is that loose one armed bandits are placed on the major aisles in the casinos, again so that more people could see winning jackpots and be motivated to play. Importantly though, we find that this also is not a universal rule any more.
